The dates for next year’s SportAccord International Convention in the Russian city of Sochi have been announced.

It will be held from April 19 to 24 after confirmation “from stakeholders”.

The 13th edition of the annual Convention is expected to be held on the Olympic Park built for the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games held earlier this year.

Sochi was chosen ahead of Abu Dhabi, Durban and an unnamed city in Brazil to host the event.

This year’s Convention was also held in April in Belek/Antalya, Turkey, while Russia staged it last year in St Petersburg.

The Convention, which hosts the annual general meetings of the governing bodies of world sport, is set to grow dramatically in size to as many as 7,500 delegates.

The theme of the 2015 Convention will be Legacy.

Last month, organisers denied the choice of Russia to stage the Convention amid the current political backdrop would affect it.

Nis Hatt, managing director at SportAccord Convention, toldĀ insidethegames: “Politics and sport are unrelated.

“We are bringing back the Convention to a country that staged a wonderfully successful Winter Olympic Games and embraces sport.”
