Earth did not get clobbered; but asteroid 2005 YU55 passed closer to our planet than the moon does. Had it hit, Earth, it would have gouged out a 4-mile crater and caused 70-foot tsunamis. Thousands of more like it are out there on orbital paths that will bring them across Earth’s orbit at some point.
