A team from Chinese Taipei finished top of the Taekwondo New Zealand (TNZ) Open medal table in Auckland.

Action took place at the North Shore Events Centre.

The TNZ Open was officially sanctioned by the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) and, in a first for the country, the international event was a G2 world ranking tournament.

The Chinese Taipei team finished top of the standings with 14 medals.

This included nine golds, two silvers and three bronzes.

Nai-Yun Shyu was one gold medalist from Chinese Taipei after she was victorious in the women’s under-46 kilograms competition.

Her teammate, Yu Ting Hung, also reached the top of the podium.

She proved too strong in the under-49kg event.

Unaffiliated USA finished second with 10 medals, two of which were gold, while the Global Martial Arts team from Australia completed the top three after winning six medals overall.

An Oceania Coaching Accreditation and Refresher Course was also held prior to the event.

The first one was for kyorugi coaches and referees, while the other focused on poomsae coaches and judge accreditation.
