I would like to send a special congratulations to my former college teammate and good friend Michael Cooley on being name to the University of South Alabama’s track and field staff. He will serve as an assistant coach focusing primarily on the sprinting events.
Michael Cooley was an All-American track and field athlete at the University of Alabama specializing in the 200 and 400 meter dash. Cooley lettered all four years while running for Alabama (2004-2008) and earned All-American honors with his teammates in 2006 placing 5th in the 4x400m relay at the NCAA Championships. He also earned All-American accolades as a senior in 2008 at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the 400 meter dash.
Cooley will be a great asset to the staff at South Alabama with his success and experience as a student-athlete. He has also proven his ability to coach multiple sports. He served on the coaching staff at Blount High School for track and field, girl’s basketball, as well as the school’s football program.
Over the past year, Cooley served as a volunteer coach for the men and women track and field teams at South Alabama. It’s great to finally see his hard work and dedication pay off. I wish my good friend much success throughout his coaching career and hope South Alabama has a successful year this upcoming season.
