I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career.  I’ve lost almost 300 games.  Twenty-six times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed.  I’ve failed over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed. – Michael Jordan

The National Basketball Association (NBA) is the pre-eminent men’s pro basketball league in North America, and is considered to be the premier men’s pro league in the world.  The NBA has 30 franchise member clubs (29 in U.S. & 1 in Canada) and was founded on June 6, 1946 in New York City as the Basketball Association of America (BAA).  The league adopted the current name, National Basketball Association (NBA) on August 3, 1949, after merging with it rival National Basketball League (NBL).  The NBA is one of the four major North American pro sport leagues.  NBA players are the world’s best paid sportsmen, by average annual salary per player.  Michael Jordan, one of the NBA best players had 6 championships, 5 MVP awards, All-star appearances in every full season he played, and the status as possibly the best defender ever.  In addition, his 30.1 points per game is the NBA’s highest career scoring average.  Finally, the NBA had many great positions at all positions as this article will attempt to summarize.
