The Clemson Tigers dominated top-ranked Alabama 44-16 to win the 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship and capture their second national title in the last three years on Monday in Santa Clara, Calif.

Clemson became the first team in modern college football history to finish a season with a 15-0 record. The Tigers are the first team since the 1897 Penn football squad to win 15 games in a season.

Freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence won offensive MVP honors after passing for 347 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Tigers.

This was the fourth time that Alabama (14-1) and Clemson had met in the CFP playoffs. The teams are 2-2 against each other in the playoff, with Clemson holding a 2-1 edge in CFP National Title games over the Tide.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney was the recipient of the United States Sports Academy’s 2016 Amos Alonzo Stagg Coaching Award.
