Switzerland’s Roger Federer is through to the men’s singles final of the 2017 Wimbledon Championships following a straight-sets win over Tomáš Berdych of the Czech Republic at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
Federer, the pre-tournament favorite who has lifted the Wimbledon trophy on seven occasions, will contest his 11th final on Center Court on Sunday (July 16).
The Swiss player moved one win from an emphatic eighth title after recording a 7-6, 7-6, 6-4 win.
Having waited five years to win his most recent major title at this year’s Australian Open, Federer could continue a sublime season by winning a 19th career Grand Slam.
“I feel very privileged to be in another final,” said Federer, according to BBC Sport.
“I’ve got the pleasure to play on Center Court another time.
“I can’t believe it’s almost true again.
“I’m happy to have a day off to reflect on what I’ve done at the tournament.”
Croatia’s Marin Cilic will be his opponent after he reached his first Wimbledon final with a four-set win over Sam Querrey of the United States.
Seventh seed Cilic came from a set down to win 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-5.
The duo hold the record for the second-longest match in Wimbledon history at 5 hours and 31 minutes, but Cilic proved far too strong for his opponent today.
It will be the second Grand Slam final for the 28-year-old after he won the US Open in 2014.
Action is due to continue tomorrow with the women’s final.
Five-time winner Venus Williams of the US will take on Spain’s Garbine Muguruza, who lost in the 2015 final to her opponent’s younger sister Serena.
