David Meggyesy - “Taking Sport Education to the Masses”

The former Syracuse University and St. Louis Cardinals football star, Mr. Meggyesy has spent the last 22 years as the West Coast representative for the NFL Players Association. Meggyesy is the author of the 53rd best selling sport book of all time, Out of their League, which was the first expose of the exploitation and abuse of football players. Meggyesy also is the initiator of the Academy’s cooperative agreement with the NFL Coaches Association to create programs to help stimulate interest in local communities in youth football programs.

Ron Gring - “Local Golf Pro Chosen one of Best in the Nation”

Daphne golf teaching professional at Timber Creek Golf Club in the Academy’s hometown of Daphne, Alabama. Gring was named as one of the top 100 golf teachers in America on the February 2003 issue of Golf Magazine. A celebration of his accomplishment was held at the Mariott Grand Hotel in which Gring’s accomplishments were lauded. The community of Daphne, Alabama is proud of his accomplishments.

Dr. Lawrence Bestmann - “Veteran Teacher/Mentor Carries on the Academy traditions”

A long-time USSA charter member since 1972, Dr. Bestmann was a mainstay in the original Saudi Arabian national sport program, and is presently Director of Mentorships. Recently he was inducted in the World Acrobatics Hall of Fame. That’s Lawrence in the background standing on his hands. We salute his achievements.

Scott Simmons - “Dominating the Nation Over Hill and Dale”

United States Sports Academy graduate (Sport Coaching 1992) Scott Simmon’s Minot State (ND) cross country team won the NAIA(National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) 2002 national cross country championship. It keeps our crowd’s string going as USSA Communications Director, Mike Spino, won the previous four national cross country championships while at Life University.
